The Women’s Health Initiative (WHI)—the US’s largest and longest study of women’s health—will continue after President Donald Trump’s administration abruptly changed course, having announced that it was cancelling most of the initiative’s studies.1
The word “women” in the study’s name may have triggered the cancellation, announced on 21 April, since the Trump administration objects to words that fall in the diversity, equity, and inclusion category. The cancellation surprised many as US health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr has vowed to focus on chronic diseases and faced severe criticism from experts in women’s and public health. …
