Mukunda Bihari Majumdar was born into a humble background in undivided British India. From childhood he was exceptionally bright and had a photographic memory. He excelled academically in school and later enrolled at Dhaka Medical College, where he qualified as a doctor in 1958.
He married Smriti Kana Majumdar in 1963 and decided to move to the UK. He worked in the NHS in various specialties, ultimately finding his love for ophthalmology. He was one of the early Asian doctors to pass the fellowship exams and later became a consultant in ophthalmology in 1976 at Royal Truro Hospital.
He had a deep desire to help and give back to his fellow countrymen. …
