Nalliah Sivananthan (“Siva”) trained in Sri Lanka and the UK. He was director at the Alexandra Surgery in Haringey, north London, from 1989 onwards. He occupied leadership positions at independent human rights organisations, media companies, and medical consultancy firms, and was recognised as a forward thinking adviser, tutor, and scholar in primary care, for over three decades.
The oldest of 11 children—five brothers and six sisters—Siva was born in Jaffna, north eastern Sri Lanka. His father, Ambalavar Sinniah Nalliah, served as Jaffna district chief education officer and his mother, Sornambal Nalliah, was principal of Kondavil Ramakrishna Maha Vidyalayam, Jaffna.
