After attending medical school in London, Clare Marlow returned to the West Midlands for house jobs and further training. She started specialty training in 2001. While a registrar she completed a masters degree in palliative medicine with Bristol University. Her MSc research investigated the use of the antidepressant mirtazapine for neuropathic pain and has resulted in substantial changes in practice regionally and beyond. Clare was appointed as a consultant in 2005, working at the Royal Wolverhampton Trust and Compton Hospice.
She further developed her passion for research, recruiting to several multicentre trials including cannabis for cancer pain, prognostication, and hydration at the end of life. She went on to become the National Institute …
