Stephan Jain was born in Birmingham and worked at hospitals in the Midlands during his early training. He was greatly inspired by Alex Paton at Dudley Road Hospital (now City Hospital), regarding Alex as “the most inspiring person one could ever hope to meet, and a wonderful physician.” Stephan went to London to undertake research with Sheila Sherlock at the Royal Free Hospital. He described this experience as a real eye opener, and he loved it, making long term friends from near and far.
