John Brown Morris

John Brown Morris was born in Glasgow and an only child. He attended Pollokshaws primary school and was evacuated to Braehead, Lanarkshire (near Carstairs), during the war. When he returned to Glasgow he began his secondary education at Hutchesons’ Grammar School for boys, where he studied Classics. Although he never studied the sciences, he was accepted to read medicine at Glasgow University in 1948.
After qualifying he was initially posted to Stobhill Hospital, then Law Hospital, Carluke, where he met his wife, Rae, who was also doing her preregistration year. The couple married in October 1955 and moved to Ballykelly, Northern Ireland, …
