Report says hunger stalks Britain: A report into hunger in Britain has said that problems related to claiming benefits through the Department for Work and Pensions are the main reason that people are referred to food banks.1 The six month inquiry into poverty, which has been led by a cross party group of MPs, described food banks as “the new shock absorbers of society.” Delays in getting benefits, high utility bills, and negligible rises in income were all contributing to the rise in hunger, said the report.
