When politicians are held to higher standards than doctors, tighter regulation of our conflicts of interest is surely overdue.1 Progress has been slow because it has relied on self regulation—itself a conflict of interest. Moves by the drug industry are welcome, but the General Medical Council should recognise the need to target regulation across the drug industry-doctor-publishing complex.
