Alice Mary Sidgwick

Alice Mary Sidgwick was born in Gloucestershire, England, and raised on the grounds of Wycliffe College (which had been founded by her family), where her father was principal of the junior school. Her family encouraged intellectual, physical, and musical excellence, and held Christian values. Mary embraced all of these as a young person. She attended Cheltenham Ladies College and Cambridge University, graduating as a doctor at a time when women were “not invited” to the graduation ceremonies.
