Surgical management of appendicitis remains best option during pregnancy

Surgeons contemplating conservative management of acute appendicitis must realise pregnant women were excluded from the meta-analysis by Varadhan and colleagues.1 Two maternal deaths have occurred in London since 2010; both women were treated with antibiotics, seemingly to recover sufficiently to be discharged before readmission with their final illness.
