Donald John Gooding was educated at Tiffin School, Kingston upon Thames, and read medicine at St George’s Hospital Medical School. He started his preclinical studies at Kings College London and from 1952 to 1955 pursued his clinical studies at St George’s, which was then at Hyde Park Corner, with the Grove, Tooting, as a distant colony.
