All rapid responses
Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed. Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles. The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being wilfully misrepresented as published articles or when it is brought to our attention that a response spreads misinformation.
From March 2022, the word limit for rapid responses will be 600 words not including references and author details. We will no longer post responses that exceed this limit.
The word limit for letters selected from posted responses remains 300 words.
Dr Harvey Gordon states without equivocation that the hospital bombed
by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF)in Gaza in Gaza was a Hamas military
base. Has he read the Goldstone report? I'm afraid the IDF have a long
history of offering excuses of this kind when a particular atrocity-and
bombing a hospital is a war crime- attracts international attention. These
excuses serve short term purposes-as we see- but are not confirmed in
subsequent independent investigation. Dr Gordon may remember when a whole
family picnicking on Gaza beach 3 years ago were shredded by a shell fired
from an Israeli warship. The IDF were immediately in disinformation mode,
suggesting that armaments Hamas had buried on the sand might have exploded
etc.An investigation by Human Rights Watch showed otherwise.
Thus could I please ask Dr Gordon what his source is for his
statement, which after all he has placed on the website of an
international medical journal, and with the imputation of BMJ bias?

In the BMJ paper copy having given a balanced head line a picture
highlights the Al Quds hospital after the Israeli attack but as usual does
not make note of the Hammas militia using it as a base.

War and Peace
War plagues us, and peace eludes us, because we overlook the connection between war and sickness. War and sickness are inseparable, just as peace and health are inseparable. In order to promote peace and health, we must first cure the universal sickness of dehydration, malnutrition, and addiction, all of which create frustration, anger, and violence, and ultimately lead to war.
