All rapid responses
Rapid responses are electronic comments to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. A rapid response is first posted online. If you need the URL (web address) of an individual response, simply click on the response headline and copy the URL from the browser window. A proportion of responses will, after editing, be published online and in the print journal as letters, which are indexed in PubMed. Rapid responses are not indexed in PubMed and they are not journal articles. The BMJ reserves the right to remove responses which are being wilfully misrepresented as published articles or when it is brought to our attention that a response spreads misinformation.
From March 2022, the word limit for rapid responses will be 600 words not including references and author details. We will no longer post responses that exceed this limit.
The word limit for letters selected from posted responses remains 300 words.
The so called health care system that Americans currently "enjoy" can
only be described as a DISGRACE.
Almost any change to it would be beneficial.
It is designed and operates in such a way that the Industry rakes in
huge and often obscene profits; this being aided and abetted by Big Pharma
in a spirit of mutual profiteering.
Germany is the best example for Obama to use, it clearly shows that a
fair system can be run by the state and that it is primarily for the
benefit of the people. No one falls through the cracks and no one needs to
suffer due to lack of money.
Those powers active in America today that tirelessly solicit
donations from Joe Citizens who voted against Obama are mounting a huge
effort in an attempt to convince Americans that their freedom is under
attack and that they will be worse off under anything that would change
the status quo.
These powers rely heavily on the perceived stupidity of the average
American citizen.
Let us hope that there is much more common sense and innate
intelligence in today's America and that the voices who dumped the failed
system of George Bush can be heard again, loudly and clearly.

Conservatives and Liberals
The eternal conflict between conservatives (fundamentalists) and liberals
(humanists) is, in part, linguistic. The former adhere to literal and denotative
language, while the latter adhere to figurative and connotative language.
Perhaps this conflict reflects a fallacy of false choices, because both kinds of
language are equally valid and not mutually exclusive. So let's syncretically
reconcile our political and religious differences, by increasing our semantic
tolerance of language.
